FAQ

Pricing & Quality

Prices vary depending on factors such as the origin of the tea leaves, cultivation methods (length of shading period), and whether the product is organically certified.
These differences affect the color, aroma, and umami flavor.

① Brand Value
- Japanese matcha has developed alongside traditional tea ceremony culture, with **regional brands** such as Uji, Shizuoka, and Kagoshima.
- Many international consumers associate matcha with Japan, which adds a price premium.

→Brand strength and consumer trust justify the difference.

② Manufacturing Process

- Authentic Japanese matcha uses **shade-grown tea leaves (tencha)** to enhance umami.
- Chinese and Korean “matcha” often refers to powdered green tea, which has **weaker color, aroma, and flavor.

→True matcha requires shading cultivation and traditional processing.

③ Quality Control & Safety Standards

- Japan enforces some of the world’s strictest pesticide residue standards, including full-lot inspections for exports.
- Cheaper origins often have more relaxed regulations, which can lead to import rejections depending on the destination country.

Quality & Specifications

Grades are generally classified from SS to C. Broadly, there are 3 categories:

- 👑Ceremonial Grade (for drinking; premium quality)
- 🥇Premium Grade(for menu-focused cafés: drinkable on its own, but also performs well in lattes, frappés, and desserts)
- 🥤Latte Grade (for beverages and confectionery)

Ceremonial grades offer superior color, aroma, and umami, while latte grades focus on cost performance and functionality.

Unopened: 12 months at room temperature
After opening: Refrigeration is recommended.
Matcha is sensitive to light, oxygen, and humidity, so aluminum, light-blocking packaging is essential.

Stone milling is rarely used commercially today.
It produces excellent color and aroma due to reduced friction heat, and is reserved mainly for special events or high-end products.
